A simple yet comfortable little lodge of 4 bedrooms on lovely Nosy Komba island - run by South African couple Danielle and Chris, whose enthusiasm and warm hospitality makes for a home-from-home island adventure
The South African owners Danielle and Chris, create a really home away from home atmosphere with their enthusiasm and warm hospitality - they really goes out of their way to ensure guests get to experience the best of island life!
You can either chill around the lodge or Danielle can arrange a wide array of activities for you to explore the area - from the hugely popular picnic and snorkelling trip to Secret Island, kayaking around the island, scuba diving, deep sea fishing to name just a few!
The food at the lodge gets consistent rave reviews from guests and meals are mostly eaten at a sociable communal table where you can make friends with fellow guests and compare notes about your days (although if you prefer to eat separately they will set up a table for you)
When the tide is out, you can cool off in the lodge's plunge pool perched amongst some huge granite boulders just above the beach
Danielle will introduce you to the nearby village in the bay around the corner and its inhabitants, giving you the chance to immerse yourself in true island life
Unashamedly simple, homely and unpretentious, this is not the place to come if you're looking for luxury and designer style
As a general rule we prefer standalone rooms of which 293 on Komba only has one
Having the village located in the next door bay means 293 on Komba perhaps doesn't feel as blissfully isolated as some other lodges in the archipelago
positioned on a hillside rising above the sea, 293 On Komba is a rustically fashioned guest house surrounded by a stunning mix of clean beaches and lush rainforests
4 rooms - 3 in the main house and 1 separate
Nosy Komba is a beautiful volcanic island between Nosy Be and the mainland of Madagascar. Here on the northern shore of the island is where you'll find 293 on Komba, a beautiful spacious home with four very comfortable bedrooms set above a beautiful bay, where you wake up to the sea lapping only a few steps away. There's a significant South African influence here - this simple yet stylish little lodge was created by Marcine who ran it for a number of years before selling it to another South African couple, Danielle and Chris, who have taken over the running of the lodge with enthusiasm, ensuring that the warm hospitality 293 on Komba became synonymous with continues as before.
Nosy Komba is a secluded destination which fits many people's ideal of the ultimate tropical getaway, its combination of untouched natural landscapes and characterful accommodations instilling a sense of utter serenity. Positioned on a thickly forested hillside rising above the sea, 293 On Komba is a rustically fashioned guest house surrounded by a stunning mix of clean beaches and lush rainforests. A sandy beach is located only a few steps away from the lodge and offers safe swimming at high tide, as well as snorkelling on a reef a couple of hundred metres offshore where you may be lucky enough to encounter some turtles!
All the simple bedrooms are designed for comfort and relaxation, and are furnished with bedding and bath towels. Of the 4 rooms, 3 are located in the main house (but boast separate entrances) whilst the 4th is free-standing and positioned as the honeymoon suite. Displaying simple, rustic island style, the rooms are comfortable and include mosquito netted beds. The bathrooms offer showers only, but all do have hot water available.
If you looking for a rejuvenating holiday where you can relax and let your hair down without worrying too much about the pretensions of the modern world, this is the ideal destination. There are no roads on the island of Nosy Komba, instead you get around either by boat or explore the largely untouched tropical forests of the interior via hiking routes, putting you in literal touch with nature. Take a tranquil walk down the beach, and you just might find yourself on the other side of the island; getting lost and perhaps finding more about yourself. The whole area seems to be in a deep contemplation, there is none of the frantic hustle and bustle of typical everyday urban life.
Nosy Komba is a hub for tropical activities. If you don't fancy spending the day chilling around the lodge's plunge pool overlooking the beach, you could instead tour the picturesque interior of the island, head to the nearby village of Ampangorina situated in the next door bay, or embark on a whale watching safari, where you’ll perhaps also be lucky enough to see dolphins, sea turtles and awe inspiring whale sharks. Spend your day out in the bay on one of the lodge's SUP's or glass-bottomed kayaks or head for the deep ocean on a day's deep-sea fishing or alternatively immerse yourself in the excellent scuba-diving opportunities offered by the coral reef rich seas of the archipelago. Exploring the underwater coral gardens of Nosy Be is an unmissable experience, the kaleidoscope of colours and the thriving sea-life making you feel as if you stepped into another world. 293 on Komba also offers a great snorkelling and beach day excursion to a nearby sandbar which is a must and a real favourite with guests!
At the end of your day, venture back to the guest house where you’ll be met with platters of fresh seafood and other delicious dishes! Dining is usually at the communal dining table and is a sociable affair where you can chat at your leisure with fellow guests about the day's adventures.
